Set in solid brass, one of our favourite materials, chosen for its tactile quality and characteristic patina - this will be a piece to cherish for many years to come. Time and again, we’ve been struck by the generosity, honesty, and spirit of the people we’ve met - these experiences have shaped our deep love of the country. ![dog]() *City Walls* We find great joy in sharing stories about Italy - its produce, landscapes, and people. The annual holiday of Ferragosto typifies this spirit - is there anything more Italian than disappearing to the seaside with the people you love the most? What began as honouring the tradition with a menu on our Terrace grew into a compulsion to go and capture the celebrations in situ. ![San Bartolo]() *San Bartolo* ![Andiamo]() *Andiamo!* For this, we couldn’t think of a better collaborator than Michele - one of our favourite photographers. His work captures vivid, colourful glimpses of hidden Italy: spontaneous, heartfelt moments that feel alive and unfiltered. Set during an evocative summer in Sicily, it captures the stillness of Palermo as the city empties for Ferragosto. A barrage of rain had burst the horizon and there was no sign of retreat. This wasn’t the picturesque Piedmont of Barolo and endless summers they had dreamt of. Lola had seen it all before. Unphased by her surroundings and the presence of strangers, her unrelenting gaze held firm. It spoke of companionship and focus, of stewardship and duty. She radiated a beautiful calmness. From their elevated vantage point, the day breathed a sigh of acceptance. Indistinct vehicles flowed along the arteries of endless vineyards. It is viewed by many as the design capital of Europe, not least because of the proximity of so many like-minded brands and their showrooms, but also because of Clerkenwell Design Week. At the start of every summer the streets come to life and the local eateries bulge at the seams as 30,000 people and over 500 brands descend on this tiny pocket of London. We have (for the most part) been somewhat passive in terms of our involvement in the festivities. So this year, we wanted to do something a little special and we are delighted to be partnering with Vitra to celebrate the launch of their new Mikado chair, designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby. Our passion for food, drink, hospitality and music is matched by few things but design is up there, and our approach to creating destinations that people love is underpinned by an ethos of ‘considered creativity’. This holds true in our collaboration with Vitra and the Mikado chair itself. We welcome all the Vitra team, Edward and Jay to Luca. ![Vitra \& Jay]() ![Mikado Sketch]() Ed and Jay are designers who articulate iconography in a way that influences the lives of their followers. Whether it’s the beautiful lines and curves of their Bellhop and Tab lamps, the bright pop of colour and industrial design of their Rimowa suitcase range or their most recent collaboration with Scandinavian paint brand Blēo. The DNA of their distinct style and approach is far-reaching. ![Vitra Mikado chair in the Dining Room at Luca]() The Mikado chair is designed with hospitality in mind, with its defining backward-tilt action allowing the user to transition seamlessly between relaxed and more upright positions.
